To ensure that Best Buy is properly meeting all regulatory obligations, Best Buy requires suppliers to provide detailed information about the regulated properties of any product subject to DOT or EPA regulatory requirements.

Best Buy is utilizing Underwriters Laboratories (UL) WERCSmart platform to gain access to validated regulated product attributes. Best Buy vendors must register all applicable products with UL WERCSmart, including all products currently assorted with Best Buy.

Product types that require WERCSmart registration include formulated and chemical-containing products, battery-containing products, stand-alone batteries, and any other product subject to a DOT or EPA regulatory requirement, such as aerosols/compressed gasses. (Examples below are for reference only and do not encompass all required products.)

To avoid delays during the item setup process, you must register the item prior to set-up. Items requiring WERCSmart registration cannot complete SKU set-up until registered.

• Formulated products and chemicals
  • Any product that contains a powder, gel, paste, liquid, or gas that is not intended for human consumption.
  • Any product that is advertised or labeled to kill, repel, or prevent the growth of any living organism. This includes, for example, anti-microbial products. It also includes all pesticides and other products regulated under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
  • Equipment containing chemicals or packed with a chemical.
     
• Batteries
  • Any product that contains a lithium-ion, lithium metal, lithium alloy, or lithium polymer battery.
  • Lithium-ion, lithium metal, lithium alloy, and lithium polymer batteries.
  • Any battery-powered vehicle or battery-powered equipment.
  • Wet, filled with acid or alkali, or non-spillable batteries.
     
• Aerosols/compressed gases
  • Any product containing a flammable or non-flammable aerosol, compressed gas, argon, carbon dioxide, including flammable refrigerants. Appliances without flammable refrigerants and containing less than 12kg of refrigerant are exempted.
