We truly believe that better technology and insights lead to better experiences for customers. To do this work, we rely on our incredibly talented employees, which is why we’re now expanding the size — and geography — of our team.

We’re thrilled to share that early next year we’ll open a new technology and analytics office in Atlanta. We plan to hire about 50 people there in the coming months and eventually expand to about 200 employees.

Our teams are constantly innovating to better serve our customers, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed — in fact, we were recently named one of Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators. That work will only accelerate with the addition of Atlanta, where we’ll soon start hiring for a variety of technology and advanced analytics roles.

“We chose Atlanta because of its emergence as a tech and data science hub in the U.S. and the incredible talent pool in the surrounding area,” Brian Tilzer, Best Buy’s chief digital and technology officer, wrote in an internal note to employees. “We’re excited for Atlanta to join our awesome team and reach additional talent to help us bring strategic insights, compelling products and key technologies to reality.”

This is just the latest example of how we’re growing our Digital & Technology and Data & Analytics teams to better serve our customers, and we know that work is done best when our employees reflect our communities. That’s why last year we committed to hiring 1,000 new employees to our technology team, with a goal of 30% of these hires being diverse, specifically Black, Latinx, Indigenous and women.

The new Atlanta office will join our existing hubs in Seattle and Boston, in addition to our team at our corporate headquarters in Minneapolis. We also have a technology team dedicated to Best Buy Health in San Diego.

Investing in the Atlanta community

Over the years, we’ve invested heavily in the Atlanta community and will continue to do so as we grow our presence. A few examples include:

  • A new Best Buy Teen Tech Center is coming soon to downtown Atlanta, in partnership with the Atlanta-Fulton County Library System’s Central Branch. Teen Tech Centers are safe after-school spaces where teens can get hands-on experience with technology, training and mentorship. (Learn more here.)
  • Since 2015, the Best Buy Foundation has awarded $339,300 in community grants to 21 Atlanta-area nonprofits whose programs connect teens to technology and prepare them for tech-reliant careers.
  • Geek Squad Academy, our summer tech camp for middle school youth, has hosted events in the Atlanta area 11 times in the last decade.
