As a company, Best Buy aims to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and prevent pollution. To do so, we continue to act year-round to do better for the planet, our employees, customers, and the communities we serve.

Since 2009, we have achieved major milestones in our sustainability programs by:

  • Reducing our carbon emissions by 62%
  • Recycling more than 2 billion pounds of electronics and appliances
  • Offering a wide variety of sustainable products to help customers reduce their carbon emissions

Over the past year, we have been recognized for our efforts. Some of those awards include:

Barron’s – Most Sustainable Companies

For the fifth year in a row, Best Buy is proud to be recognized as one of Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies. Barron’s “Most Sustainable” ranks companies on more than 230 performance indicators, including workplace diversity, carbon reduction, how companies performed for key stakeholders, community engagement and more. We ranked No. 4 in this year’s list as a result of our commitment to helping customers reduce their carbon emissions, our e-waste recycling program and our gender-diverse board of directors.

CDP – Climate A List

We have been recognized as a leader by CDP for tackling climate change and accelerating our environmental goals. The CDP Climate A List assesses companies based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks, and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. We have been on this list for six years for our efforts to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and drive a low-carbon economy.

S&P Global – Dow Jones Sustainability Index

For the 12th consecutive year, we have been named to The Dow Jones Sustainability Index. The index analyzes a variety of criteria, including carbon reduction, human rights, and corporate governance. Being included on the index reflects our broader approach to corporate responsibility and sustainability. We are one of eight retail companies on the 2023 North American Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year

Every year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) highlights organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy-efficiency achievements. We were awarded ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the ninth year in a row for our efforts in protecting the environment and helping consumers save energy and costs. This includes our wide selection of energy-efficient product offerings and becoming a founding member of the Breakthroughs 2030: Retail campaign, a Race to Zero initiative.

America’s Most Responsible Companies

For the fourth year in a row, Best Buy has made Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies list. In partnership with Statista, Newsweek evaluated 2,000 of the largest U.S. public companies based on publicly available environmental, social and governance data points, as well as a survey of 11,000 U.S. consumers.

FTSE4Good Index

Best Buy has been named to the ftse4good index for the ninth year in a row. The index includes publicly traded companies with strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.
